St Mary’s Church, Mellor – Fabric Report 2011

Post date: Apr 27, 2012 9:42:18 PM

The general state of repair of the church continues to be satisfactory. During the year the steeple has been repaired and is now weatherproof. However the lead flashings were stolen in September from around the four single storey corners of the church. This resulted in damage to the Vestry roof which has allowed significant ingress of rain water during times of heavy rain. Part of the ceiling has been taken down to allow the roof to dry out and a repair to the outside covering is currently under consideration with the church’s architect. The floor in the kitchen was replaced as an area was showing signs of deterioration and a new flue was fitted to the central heating boiler. The exercise to replace the lighting in the church was not completed during the year but is still under consideration.
