There will be numerous acts of remembrance throughout the country to mark the end of World War 1 on Sunday 11th November.

In Mellor -

    • The Parish Council is working towards bringing the village together with a service of celebration in St Mary’s Church at 9.30am before an act of remembrance at the Village Memorial followed by a light lunch in St Mary’s School on 11th November

    • The children in school are researching the names on the church and village memorials as well as making poppies from clay and recycled plastic bottles which will decorate the Memorial grounds

    • There will be a display of metal poppies in church purchased by members of the congregation and taken home after the Remembrance Day service to be used in the garden as a bird feeder/bird bath.

    • Hand made poppies made from felt are for sale on the card stall in church with all proceeds donated to the British Legion

    • It is hoped to have a display of memorabilia in church – if anyone has any items which are relevant and could be used – please speak to Rita Gorman / Mary Woodward

    • A Big Band Night will be held at BAE Systems Canberra Club on Saturday 20th October – tickets £10 including Hot Pot Supper
