Christmas on Jesus

posted 24 Nov 2019, 09:28 by Richard Jones

The Kingdom Outreach group are planning to make sure that families who are struggling financially have a Christmas Dinner by providing a  ‘Christmas on Jesus’ hamper.

Each hamper will contain a fresh chicken, vegetables etc, books telling the Christmas story - appropriate to the ages of children in the family, messages and cards etc.

The families who receive the hampers have been referred by Blackburn with Darwen Children’s Services but if you know of any family who would benefit from a hamper please let us know.

We can help in various ways – writing cards, packing hampers, collecting and delivering, praying, donating £30 which will provide one hamper.

Please see sheet in the Narthex and sign up if you feel able to help in any way or contact:-

FOLLOW THE STAR

posted 24 Nov 2019, 09:04 by Richard Jones

Our church is again taking part in the Church of England’s Christmas campaign-Follow the Star. It begins on Christmas Eve and follows the footsteps of the Wise Men to meet Jesus. You can join the campaign by simply going onto the Church of England website at www.churchofengland.org and you will immediately be invited to sign up-it’s that simple.

There are 12 reflections in total, one for each day from Christmas Day throughout the 12 days of Christmas, ending with the Feast of the Epiphany.

As well as the reflections, each day offers a practical challenge to bring the theme alive together with a short prayer. There is always a slightly longer suggested Bible passage to read if you want to go a bit deeper.

Thank You       Geoff Gill.

CANDLELIT ADVENT CAROL SERVICE

posted 24 Nov 2019, 08:59 by Richard Jones

on Sunday, 8
th December at 4.00pm

at St Mary’s, Mellor

Once again we have reached that ‘mystical’ period of the Church’s Calendar when we have the opportunity to prepare ourselves to receive our Lord at Christmas, through readings, hymns and music as we celebrate the season of Advent.

The choir has been working hard and, with the clergy of the benefice, you are warmly invited to share in this act of worship. Do make every effort to come to church and prepare yourself in the time-honoured way.

Christmas Fayre

We are delighted that the Mayor of Ribble Valley, Councillor Stella Brunskill JP has kindly agreed to open the Christmas Fayre on Saturday 30th November at 11.00am.

Please come along and do some Christmas shopping, enjoy a Hot Pot Lunch, bring the children to meet Father Christmas, have a go on the Tombolas, chat with your friends...and help us raise much needed funds for our church.

Draw tickets will be available with wonderful prizes:-

£100 M&S Voucher, Vouchers for the Millstone and from Littler's Butcher, a Christmas Hamper, 6 bottles of Wine and many more. Winning tickets will be drawn at the close of the Fayre.

We rely on the support of all parishioners and friends to make the Christmas Fayre a success.

Thank you.           St Mary's Social & Fund Raising Committee
