Library news and request for old photos of Mellor

Post date: Oct 31, 2010 8:23:51 AM

I'm Emily Hurt, the new member of staff at Mellor Library. I've taken over from Mary Keefe, who is now retired and probably on a cruise somewhere exotic! I'm slowly finding my feet and getting to know people so please pop in and say hello if you're passing. Mellor seems like a lovely place and I'm sure I'll be happy working here.

I'm planning on organising some events in the library over the next few months, including a Christmas craft morning for children and IT sessions for absolute beginners in conjunction with Age UK. I'll let you know more about those as and when dates and times are confirmed.

In the meantime, I need your help!

I'm working with Sue Holden, the Community History Librarian at Clitheroe, to develop a small community history collection here at Mellor. We already have some resources at the library that have been in storage for a while so we'll dust those off and add them to the library catalogue. However, we'd like to create some resources from scratch as well. We'd like to put together an album of old photographs of Mellor along with a bit of information about each picture. It would be kept here in the library and we think it would make a great resource for local school children, visitors to the area, or anyone with an interest in the history of Mellor.

If you have any old photographs of Mellor (anything prior to 1980), and would be willing to lend them to us, we would greatly appreciate it. If there's a story behind the photo, even better! They will be scanned at Clitheroe library as we don't have a scanner here, so we will need to borrow them for a short time but we will look after them and return them to you as soon as possible.

You can drop them off at the library any time as this will be an ongoing project and we can add to it over a period of months. The library is open 2.00-5.00 and 5.30-7.00 Mondays and Wednesdays, and every Saturday 10.00-12.00. If you have photos but cannot get to the library because of mobility issues then we can arrange for someone to come out and collect them from you. If you have any queries you can telephone 01254 812821.

I look forward to meeting you all and seeing your photos!

Emily
