This took place on Saturday 27th February at Blackburn Cathedral. It is an occasion when choristers from the Diocese are presented with Bishop's, Dean's and Archdeacon's Awards.

Families and friends from St. Mary's Mellor felt very proud when four of our choir boys were awarded the Archdeacon's Medal for loyalty. Harry Davis, Christopher Hodgson, James Popaduik and Thomas Wiggans.

The boys along with Frank spent all day rehearsing Introits, Responses, Hymns, Psalms and Anthems which included musical settings by George Herbert, Priest and poet 1633.

Then at 3.30p.m. families and friends of choristers from all over our Diocese were treated to some excellent melodic singing.

What a wonderful sound they created in Blackburn Cathedral.

Finally at the end of the service the Bishop of Lancaster presented our own Choirmaster and Organist Mr. Frank Ashton with an inscribed decanter from the Royal School of Church Music for over sixty years of loyal service to Church Music.

Congratulations to Frank and the four Choir Boys.
