Friends of Chernobyl (FOCC) Can you help?  FOCC is run by volunteers who raise funds to bring children over to Blackburn to visit host families.  The next visit is in June when twelve children will be arriving from Belarus.  To boost fundraising the

charity shop on Lord Street West in Blackburn has been booked for half-term week 16 – 21 February.  We need to fill the shop with bric-a-brac, books, good quality clothing, un-wanted Christmas presents - in fact anything we can resell apart from electrical items.  Please could you hand in donations at the shop ideally on Monday 16 February or at any time later in the week.

If you able to help in the shop, we are in need of volunteers on Thursday 19 and Friday 20 February.  If you need more information about the charity or wish to donate items, please contact:  Liz Skupski, Blackburn Coordinator FOCC, at

Wednesday 18 February Ash Wednesday Service will be held at Balderstone this year. Timing and details to be confirmed.

Wednesday 25 February This year the Lent Study will be held jointly with Mellor Methodist Church.  Titled "Magnificent Jesus" it will be a bible study looking at Jesus' "I Am" sayings in John's Gospel.  Meetings will be on Wednesdays in Lent starting at 7.15pm at Mellor Methodist Church and will be jointly led by Revd. Albert Gayle, Rev Geoffrey Peddie and Amma Sue.

This is a wonderful opportunity to study God's word in company with our Christian brothers and sisters from the other churches in our United Benefice so please do make it a firm date in your diary. Don't worry if you can't make all the meetings - just come to as many as you can! There's a poster at the back of church and in the porch with all the details.

Wednesday 4 March The next FOSMS Meeting will take place in school at 7.30 pm.  All welcome.

If you wish to contribute anything to the notices please send an email to Chris Davis at by Thursday evening.
